Dental anxiety is an issue for any practicing dentist, with implications for patients and dentists alike. Anyone familiar with the dentist office knows that dental anxiety is real, with a measurable impact on office efficiency and patient experience. Dental anxiety has well-documented physiological and psychological effect, that can be deleterious to the lives of our patients, even in the long-term. Literature demonstrates that the majority of dental patients prefer sedation for endodontics, periodontics, and extraction procedures, and those with anxiety even prefer sedation for simple cleanings.

One question we are sometimes asked is if we will be transporting medications with us to the office or facility, including scheduled medications such as fentanyl and midazolam.

JUNE 11th, 2016 - Arizona Anesthesia Solutions (AzAS), Arizona's leader in outpatient anesthesia services, partnered with Dr. Ralph Price, DDS of Price Periodontics and Implants, and Wiand Dental Lab to offer dental professionals continuing education in airway management. Additionally the course was also approved by the Arizona Board of Dental Examiners for those pursuing their 1304 permit. The course was designed for dental professionals and their staff who are currently or planning on offering sedation services in their office or center.

The preoperative exam is the foundation of the relationship for every anesthesia provider, no matter the profession. The focused history and physical conducted prior to anestheisa not only includes a complete accounting of a patient's previous medical and surgical history, but also a review of all medications and allergies, current physical status, and reactions to anesthetics, as well as a review of diagnostics and consultations from other specialties. Lastly, in the brief time that anesthesia professionals and patients spent together, it's a time to establish trust in the brief amount of time before heading back for surgery.

PHOENIX, AZ - Joseph A. Rodriguez, CRNA, was voted 2019’s “CRNA of the Year” by the Arizona Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AZANA) for contributions to the CRNA community over his career as a CRNA. Joe, in coordination with other members of AZANA and with AzAS, has been part or led teams that have led to significant advocacy achievements. While President (2016-17), Joe was able to finish a 2-year effort to grant physicians and surgeons immunity while working with CRNAs, a first-in-nation achievement that addressed a concern within the healthcare community, as well as helping to restore prescriptive authority for CRNAs. AzAS is very proud to have Joe as one of its managing partners and of his contributions to the community.

PHOENIX, AZ - Ali J. Baghai, CRNA, was recognized by the Arizona Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AZANA) as “CRNA of the Year” for his outstanding record of professional service to the CRNA community. Ali is the former president of the AZANA (2015-16) and spearheaded the effort to pass first-in-nation statutory legal immunity for surgeons and physicians when working with CRNA’s, addressing a long-held concern for surgeons, and subsequently increasing access and decreasing costs associated with anesthesiology care. AzAS is very proud of Ali’s accomplishments and his contributions to the mission of AzAS and the greater anesthesia community.
